Sudoku-The New Craze in Puzzles

Though some think (and would argue) that sudoku was originated in China, it actually originated in Japan. The correct Japanese pronunciation on sudoku is "su-doku,” with the meaning being "the number that is single.” It was introduced around the 18th century yet has only recently become popular in the United States and the rest of the world, partly due to the recognition the game has received on national television programs and in some of the most popular magazines.
Sudoku can be played anywhere at anytime. It is a good way to pass time in places such as the doctor's or dentist's office, or a great way just to wind down at the end of a trying day. It is said to be hard to put down once it's started and can keep young or old occupied for hours on end, depending on the complexity of the puzzle. Sudoku is like Sonic, with endless combinations available to reach just the right combination with perfection coming with practice.
Sudoku is a fun-filled puzzle that deals with numbers, but one need not be a math wizard to figure it out. Actually, no basic mathematical knowledge is needed. It is most commonly played over a 9x9 grid with 9 slots in each row. Some of the slots already have numbers, leaving the blank ones in each 3x3 area to be filled in with the numbers 1-9. The catch is that you cannot use the number more than once on each row, each column and each area. The given numbers cannot be changed or moved. The object of the game is to fill in the grids without duplicating the numbers in the areas. The puzzles can range from fairly simple to extremely complex, with the player choosing the skill level he or she feels the most comfortable with.
There is no denying that it is new craze in puzzles. To find out what the hype is all about, find a sudoku puzzle and a quiet corner and give it a try.
